The best employers Germany 2026 ranking can be a useful starting point when researching companies and planning your job search.
It may introduce you to well-rated employers that are less familiar internationally. It can also help you compare companies within your profession or industry.
However, an employer ranking does not tell you whether a company currently has a suitable vacancy, accepts applications in English or provides support with visa procedures and relocation.
International applicants should therefore treat the ranking as one research tool rather than a ready-made list of companies to apply to.
What the kununu ranking measures
The 2026 Most Wanted Employer ranking was produced by the employer review platform kununu in cooperation with the ZEIT Publishing Group.
It is based on reviews submitted by current and former employees. These reviews cover topics such as workplace culture, career opportunities, salary and the general working environment.
To qualify for the ranking, companies had to meet several minimum criteria by October 31, 2025. These included:
a German company profile on kununu
an overall kununu rating of at least 3.5 out of 5
an employee rating of at least 3.5, including during the previous 12 months
a recommendation rate of at least 70 percent
at least 80 employee reviews in total
at least eight reviews submitted during the previous 12 months
The final ranking score gives particular weight to the recommendation rate and recent employee reviews. It may therefore differ from the general rating shown on an individual company’s kununu profile.
The ranking includes employees from different professions, industries and career levels. It is not specifically based on the experiences of international employees.

One useful feature of the best employers Germany 2026 ranking is that it includes several companies that may not be familiar to applicants outside Germany.
The list is also relatively diverse. Energy, finance, insurance, IT, healthcare, hospitality, consulting and recruitment are all represented among the top 15.
This does not mean that all these companies are relevant to your background. Their current vacancies, professional requirements, working language and locations still need to be checked individually.
Selected top employers by industry
The overall ranking combines many different industries. For your job search, the company that performs best within your professional field may be more relevant than the company at the top of the national list.
Selected industry leaders in the 2026 ranking include:
| Industry | Highest-ranked employer | Ranking score |
| Automotive | AUDI AG | 4.35 |
| Banking | Hamburger Sparkasse AG | 4.67 |
| Construction and architecture | GOLDBECK GmbH | 4.32 |
| Consulting | pme Familienservice GmbH | 4.58 |
| Education, research and culture | Carl Zeiss AG | 4.41 |
| Energy | Bayernwerk AG | 4.81 |
| Finance | TauRes Gesellschaft für Investmentberatung mbH | 4.92 |
| Healthcare and social services | AllDent Zahnzentrum | 4.54 |
| Industry | Siemens AG | 4.42 |
| IT | Atruvia AG | 4.65 |
| Mechanical engineering | Krones AG | 4.19 |
| Medicine and pharmaceuticals | FAIR DOCTORS Gruppe | 4.79 |
| Tax and auditing | KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft | 4.26 |
| Transport | Deutsche Bahn AG | 4.04 |
| Insurance | Provinzial Holding AG | 4.64 |
These industry results can help you identify employers to research, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the German market.
They should not be interpreted as a complete list of suitable companies. A lower-ranked or unranked employer may have a position that matches your background much better.
What the ranking does not tell international applicants
A strong employer rating can be encouraging, but it does not answer several questions that are particularly important for international professionals.
Whether suitable jobs are currently available
A company can rank highly without having an open position in your profession, location or experience range.
Always check the current vacancies on the company’s official career page.
Whether applications are accepted in English
The ranking does not measure the working language of individual teams.
Some companies advertise certain roles in English but require German for others. Read the language requirements of each vacancy rather than making assumptions based on the company as a whole.
Whether the employer provides visa or relocation support
The ranking does not assess whether a company is experienced in hiring candidates who require a German work visa.
Look for information in the job advertisement, career pages and relocation policies. You can also ask the recruiter whether the company provides the employer documents required for the visa process or offers practical relocation support.
Whether your qualification and experience match the position
A good employer rating does not make a vacancy suitable for every applicant.
The position may require specific technical skills, professional experience, German language ability or formal qualification recognition.
Whether every team has the same working culture
Employee reviews describe individual experiences. Conditions may vary between departments, locations, managers and roles.
Read several recent reviews and look for comments from employees in a similar function or location. One highly positive or highly negative review should not determine your entire impression of a company.
How to use the ranking in your job search
The best employers Germany 2026 list becomes more useful when you connect it to a focused employer research process.
1. Start with your target roles
Define the positions that match your professional background before creating a long list of employers.
The same company may employ engineers, software developers, accountants, sales professionals and administrative staff, but the requirements for each function can be very different.
2. Identify relevant industries
Review both the national ranking and the results for your field.
This can introduce you to employers that you may not find through a search focused only on internationally famous brands.
3. Visit the official career page
Check whether the employer currently has roles that match your experience.
Pay attention to:
job responsibilities
required qualifications
professional experience
working language
location
salary information, where provided
remote or hybrid arrangements
references to visa or relocation support
Do not rely on an old job advertisement or a third-party job board if a newer version is available on the company’s own website.
4. Read employee reviews selectively
Look for recent reviews from the relevant location, department or professional group.
Consider recurring themes rather than isolated comments. Reviews may help you identify questions to ask during an interview, but they cannot show exactly what your own experience would be.
5. Research employees with relevant career paths
LinkedIn can help you identify people who work in your target function or followed a career path similar to yours.
A short and specific message may help you learn more about the team, the required skills or the recruitment process. Employees are not required to answer, so keep your message respectful and avoid immediately asking for a job or referral.
6. Build a broader but focused employer list
Do not restrict your research to the 15 companies in the national ranking.
Add employers that:
operate in your industry
hire for your target roles
use English in relevant vacancies
have locations you would consider
offer working conditions that suit your priorities
have previously mentioned visa or relocation support
A focused list of suitable employers is generally more useful than applying randomly to every well-known company.
Expand your employer research
The national ranking introduces only a small selection of companies.
I have compiled a free list of more than 1,000 companies in Germany that have advertised English-speaking positions. More than 250 of them have mentioned visa or relocation support in job advertisements, career pages or employer information.
The list covers companies across different industries and regions. It can help you identify employers beyond the best employers Germany 2026 ranking and internationally familiar brands.
The list is not a job board and does not show which positions are open today. It does not guarantee that every company currently has an English-speaking vacancy or provides visa support for every position.
